These are unprecedented times; and like all around us, Area 1 Security has been adjusting to the new normal that we are living in. Our hearts go out to anyone who has been impacted by the ongoing pandemic and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.

At Area 1, we are closely monitoring the situation both for personal health and business impacts and using 3 guiding principles as we continue to move forward with our mission:

  1. Keep employees, families and loved ones safe
  2. Protect and serve Area 1 customers with the highest standards
  3. Do our part to slow community spread of the virus and participate in any efforts to help mitigate and control spread

Our mission is to protect you and provide the highest levels of service at all times. In a time like this, that need becomes even more pronounced. Specific steps we have taken to address the current situation include:

  • 100% Remote Work: We are fortunate to be able to provide our service through remote means. In accordance with local, state and federal guidelines, the entire Area 1 team globally is working remotely; and we are following our Business Continuity directives to ensure that our service runs with the same levels of availability and efficacy that you expect from us.


  • Expanded Operational Resilience: Given the new normal of increased remote working and greater use of collaboration tools and cloud services, we expect Email and Web traffic volumes to rise higher over the coming months. Being a cloud native service, we have the ability to modulate capacity as needed to process higher volumes rapidly. In order to address the expected traffic volumes, we have already taken steps to increase our cloud processing footprint and can scale dynamically as needed.


  • Targeted COVID-19 Protection: At a time like this, it’s understandable that Cybersecurity and Phishing attacks may not be top of mind for you and your organization. However, motivated actors have no moral compass and in every tragic event they see boundless opportunity. Over the past several weeks, we have seen organizations across all industries and sizes being targeted by COVID-19 phishing by impersonating trusted organizations and personnel. We expect that trend to continue in the coming months and the balance of the year. In order to explicitly address these, the Area 1 team has published a variety of new models leveraging COVID-19 as the primary theme, along with impersonation of local, state and healthcare authorities; as well as impersonation of remote working tools (eg: Zoom, Webex etc.). Additionally Area 1 sensors have been updated to proactively look for campaign infrastructure related to COVID-19 phish.


  • Complimentary Partner Protection: Attackers are increasingly leveraging 3rd party partners to breach organizations. Recognizing that the current times could make your small partner organizations more vulnerable, we are doubling the ability for customers who have purchased the Enterprise package to offer the Area 1 service to their small business partners on a complimentary basis; from 10 partners to 20 partners. This facility will be available for the balance of this calendar year until December 31, 2020. For more details, please reach out to your designated Technical Account Manager.


  • Complimentary Web Phish Protection:  With the increased focus on remote working, we expect organizations to be increasingly targeted through their employees that are logging into systems from their home offices. In order to provide the highest levels of protection, Area 1 will waive any Pay-per-Phish fees for phish that are detected through remote Web browsing. This facility will be available for all customers through to the end of the calendar year until December 31, 2020.  This will be automatic and no action is required on your end to get this benefit.
